Bike Tire

Mike,
What kind of tire did you say you have on your bike?
Thanks,
Greg

They are Michelin Pro Race. I usually buy a couple of pair every year at the Hilly Hundred. They retail for around $40 - $50 per tire normally. At the Hilly I think I can find them for around $30 each if I remember right. I've liked them for low rolling resistance, and still good tread life.

I do normally rotate from front to back after about 2000 miles, and with doing so I can usually get from 3000 - 4000 miles on a pair unless there is a bigger cut in a tire. The pair I'm on now have about 3000, and I'm over due to rotate. The rear takes more damage than the front, but it really looks pretty good. The front at this point looks great, so I think if I rotate I should get another 1000-1500 miles.

One other note about tires. With living in the city, I have a very strong habit of cleaning my tires with my gloved hand while riding. I do this 5-6 times in a 40 miles ride. A good habit for all cyclist. I also check for imbeded rocks or glass or such before / after each ride. I've found many little things that I took out that if it didn't lead to a flat, would have certainly lead to a bigger nash in the tire.

I'm going to the Hilly Hundred this fall. If you'd like me to pick-up a cheaper pair for you let me know.

Mike
