Ride with a destination - Nov 1

Hello all,

Lynda and I are planning a ride for Saturday Nov 1st. We want to see if the group would be interested in a city / Forest Park type of ride that has a stop at some point at Compton Hill Water Tower. This is one of the old city water towers that has an interesting history. It is at Grand and Russell, about a mile from our house. You can see the tower from I-44, and have probably driven by it many times. The tower is open the first Saturday of every month from April - Nov. It cost $5.00 to go up, and you may need to have a backpack or something for tennis shoes to climb in, but I think most of us can figure that part out.

Lynda and I have been up it, and it is pretty neat. It is not a bad climb at all - it is not THAT tall. Neat view, and some history, plus on Nov 1st, the colors and leaves may be about right.

We can bike before or after or both, and we can probably fit in a coffee or brunch stop somewhere too.

We can probably launch this ride from our house or Forest Park, or a group could leave from someplace else (like Roark's) and meet us too.

Let us know if you're interested,

Mike and Lynda

I am in for the water tower. If only they would fix the fountains. In case you all don't know. The Stacy park reservoir was the replacement for the water tower.

Mike,
Sounds cool, but I'm subbing for spinning that morning and then have to take care of some other stuff. Anyone who wants to spin first is welcome....8:30am-9:30am.

The tower does not open until Noon, so maybe our rides start around 10:30 or 11:00 so the tower is kind of in the middle. Then after the tower we can find coffee, and then get in a few more miles on the way home.

This Saturday's ride to Compton Heights Water Tower has two start locations, both starting at 11:00 am.

One train will start from Mike's house in downtown. The other train start's from Roark's house in Olivette. If you start from Roark's house you can use the new spiffy bicycle rack.

Both trains will meet at the Forest Park Visitor Center at 11:30 am. Forest Park will be looped, and then we will work our way to the tower at about 12:45.

After the tower we ride back to Roark's with snacks after the tower.
