September Bike Ride for 2010

With Mike leaving word that he wont be planning this summers trip, here is the first option I am considering: LAGBRAU (7 day option) With hotels but not with airfare or bike shipment $1100.

A CALL TO PEDALS - to all capable bicycle riders everywhere to come and participate in "the most scenic bicycle ride in the world," the Legacy Annual Great Bike Ride Across Utah (LAGBRAU). Each day you will ride through a different National Park, National Monument, National Recreation Area or National Forest that are international recognized as some of the most unique and beautiful sites in the world.

LAGBRAU offers three route options:

Not to stand on ceremony but I spoke out of turn. Mike is more then willing to continue to plan a ride to Ohio, if there is interest. Planning a ride is a tremendous amount of work ( hence I retired ) and he is busy and would like to make sure first there is interest in Ohio before he invests time and the group decides to go elsewhere.

Mike also is willing like I am to go with an organized ride (HOTEL ROOMS OPTION REQUIRED)

Ok again I misspoke. The hotel rooms fit two. So the price would be more like $1100 inclusive of lodging and meals.

Did this ride last year. It was a logistical train wreck. Missed rest stops, taking people to the wrong hotel, late departures, routing down roads under construction, routing down roads that hadn't been used in 20 years and on and on. I would suggest you use your $ on a more organized ride. If you do a search on lagbrau on the web, you'll see the same comments were posted in 2005.

Also did this ride last year. To compare this ride to a train wreck is insulting to train wrecks. I have been on many organized rides and would say that Lagbrau is the most scenic but the worst run ride. It could be one of the best rides in the country but this would require different people to run it. I talked to every rider on the tour and did not find anyone who had been on the ride before. Not haveing repeat riders says a lot about the event.

I did this ride in 2007.
Great scenery terrible/no organization, just met an Australian couple on Sierra to the Sea last week same story. People need to understand that this is not well supported and you need to carry extra water and energy bars due to non-existing sag stops. Riders pooled together to rent a van to move the baggage themselves in 2007. Talked to folks who rode in 2006 with the same disaster stories. BTW the only contributions that I can find on the web that LAGBRAU has made was to the Republican Party in 2007.
In general Les Titus who runs the ride seems to give the impression that each years problems are unique, they are not
