Tour of Shawnee Forest October 22 - 23

Since I am not sure who may be getting what e-mails I figured this might be the easiest way to reach the gang. As things stand right now for Tour of Shawnee Forest Dan Bauer and his wife are going, I am going, Rick Ochs is going, Mike Brady is going, Greg Hobson and his wife are going. Ron Bookout is not going and will be in Mesa. (Muilenburg is planning a bike ride in Mesa sometime soon. I do not know the date.) Roark and Maxine are a maybe.

Mike has a room reserved at the Day's Inn and I have a double room reserved at the Day's Inn. Rick we can share the double room. Mike and Rick, we can take my car. I have a rack that will carry 3 bikes quite well. I was thinking we could meet at Mike's house and try to be on the road by 5:00 - 5:15 Friday night. We can get on Hwy 55 easily from Mike's house. Let me know what you think about this idea. (If we need to cancel the hotel rooms need to be canceled on Tuesday October 19th. Let make sure we are all committed to go by Tuesday.)

Mark (and all),

At this point I am still planning on going. But that Friday before the event is looking like a very busy day for me at work. I know I won't get home till 6:00 at best. So it would be best for me to drive down seperately so as to not delay anyone else's drive down.

My new job is going to be pretty good for me - but I have jumped into a lot of things to get my hands around, so that has been pretty challenging right off the bat, and will probably continue to be so for a couple of months. This is already effecting my cycling a bit too. A bit of a bummer, but something I'll just have to deal with.

I do want to go to this ride, and at this point I'm still committed. If I have to bail late, I will pay for my part (or even all if necessary) of the room, so I don't want that to be an issue.

I think the ride looks like a good one. The only other catch for me is I'm not sure I'll be in much shape to ride the longer routes as my cycling form / conditioning is about shot for the year. I'll probably be looking at the 100k route at most instead of the 100 mile. I'm quite certain I will not be able to make the 100 mile distance.

I'll let you all know more as my next week unfolds. I happen to be out of town most of next week too, so yet another challenge! But I'll watch for updates here and let you all know how my week / plans are coming.

Mike and Rick,

I am OK with leaving a bit later if that works for us. Mike, if you can give us an update on Tuesday about work. We can leave around 6:30 pm on Friday. All I am trying to do is keep things a bit organized.
Roark and Maxine are going and Dan and his wife are going. It will be a good trip, even with a 60% chance of rain for Saturday.
Thanks, Mark

I just found out this evening my Arizona trip has been postponed.
I was planning to leave at 7 am tomorrow.
So, instead of two weeks in Arizona Suzette and I might be back on for the bike ride. I will now have my bike that I shipped to Phoenix there without me....along with a lot of camera equipment.
I'll know more in a couple of days.

Ain't that just something.
This is the latest I have on the ride Saturday. The ride starts at 8:00 am. Registration is Friday evening from 5:30 - 7:30. At this time it does not look like anyone will be there in time to pick up the rider packets. Since we will not be able to register Friday evening for the ride I am ok with leaving after 6:00 pm.

The ride starts about 13 miles north of the hotel. I am thinking we leave the hotel by 7:00 that gets us to the park in enough to get our packets and ready to ride at 8:00. It looks like there are rest stops about every 15 miles or so.
Mike let me know what you think about Friday and we can plan to meet you at your house and go from there.
Roark, what time do you think you and Maxine might leave for Cairo?

Suzette and I are now on for the ride and staying at Days Inn.
We'll be leaving Friday evening from our house and register in the morning.
Hope the weather holds out...see you there.

It look like there will be seven of us doing the ride on Saturday. Mike Brady, Rick Ochs, Dan Bauer, Ron Bookout, Roack, Greg Hobson, and me. Rick, Mike and I will be driving down together. We will be getting on the road from Mike's house around 6:30 Friday evening.
Rick, meet Mike and me at his house around 6:00.

Let's plan to leave the hotel around 7:00 am Saturday morning. There are showers available after the bike ride at the lake. Bring what you need to shower after the ride.

We can decide what to do after the ride as far eating dinner in Town or on the road.

See you all on Saturday.

Mark, thanks for all you have done to organize this ride. I think this is going to be a great ride and am looking forward to it. I too will be getting a late start on the drive down since I will be getting back from out of town Friday.
Ron, if Suzette isn't riding she could join Maxine and Judy in sightseeing, antique shopping or whatever they find to do(hopefully it's not spending too much money).
Dan, your wife could join them also if she wants.

See everyone Friday night.

Everyone,

Though I was really looking forward to attempting the Tour De Shawnee even with jet lag and lack of riding of late, I am going to have to cancel.

I caught something during my whirlwind of traveling and came home Thursday night sick.

I wont give you all the details, but I am not up for a ride of any type.

I hope everyone has a great time!
